Avoid Falling Victim To Scams During Holidays: Ocean City Police

Ocean City police provide tips for avoiding falling victim to scams for the holidays.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City Police Department provided a few reminders to help residents avoid falling victim to scams and thefts that seem to be on the rise this holiday season. Ocean City police issued the following reminders on Monday:

  • Never give your personal information out over the phone. Scammers will use a variety of tactics that will encourage an individual to provide this information. Scammers are now able to use a phone number that looks familiar to the victim and even has the same area code and three digit exchange as the victim’s phone.
  • Valuables should be stored out of sight in your vehicle when shopping. Make sure your vehicle is locked at all times. Park your vehicle in a location that is visible and has good lighting.
  • When shopping, make sure that you secure your handbag, purse, cell phone or other valuable items on your person. Do not leave valuable items in your shopping cart or unattended.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings and if possible never walk alone or shop alone.
  • Never consume alcoholic beverages and operate a motor vehicle. Use a designated driver or one of the many ride sharing programs if you are going to consume alcohol.

Police also wished residents a safe and happy holiday season.
