Beachgoer Drowns Near NJ Beach, Police Say

NEW JERSEY - A Jersey Shore beachgoer drowned Tuesday in Wildwood Crest, authorities said.

Joel Green, 53, of Johnstown, P.A., was pulled from the water and given CPR by swimmers after he was found unresponsive, Wildwood Crest police said.

Wildwood Crest police aided the swimmers in CPR efforts until Wildwood Crest Rescue and the City of Wildwood Fire/Water Rescue arrived to begin other life saving measures.

Green was ultimately transported to Cape Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

“The Wildwood Crest Police Department extends their deepest condolences to Mr. Green’s family and friends,” Wildwood Crest police said in a statement. “All bathers are reminded to swim at protected beaches while lifeguards are on duty.”
