Bike Path Grant To Enhance Access To Ocean City: NJDOT

OCEAN CITY, N.J. — Somers Point received a state grant that will improve bike access to Ocean City, officials said. The bike-path grant will improve the Route 52 Causeway that connects 9th Street in Ocean City to Somers Point.

The expansion includes construction of bike lanes on Somers Point-Mays Landing Road, which will be used to connect the existing bike path and Route 52 multi-use path and bike lanes on Route 9, officials said.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation grant, awarded to Somers Point, is worth $130,000. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring of 2020 with completion that summer.

“We are excited to now have the funding to connect the bikeways to the parkway, Ocean City and our neighboring communities,” Greg Sykora, Somers Point Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC) chairman, said in a statement. “Somers Point is the biking hub for the shore."

The project covers 3/4 of a mile and includes delineation of a bike lane on the roadway and pedestrian improvements to the sidewalk on the North side of the road, officials said.
