Boardwalk Art Show Highlights Week of Events in Ocean City

Ocean City’s 53rd annual Boardwalk Art Show highlights a week of activities in Ocean City.

The Art Show takes place Aug. 7-9, and gives artists from throughout the East Coast the chance to show their work. Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday.

It begins in the vicinity of the Music Pier. The Ocean City Arts Center is offering free space to student artists. Call 609-399-7628 for information. The event was started by Dr. Marcia Smith, James F. Penland and Mayor B. Thomas Waldman.

Other events taking place this week in Ocean City are as follows:

Aug. 6: Twins Contest: Prizes for those who look the most alike and least alike. Registration begins 6 p.m. in front of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Call 609-399-6111.

Aug. 6: Ocean City Fishing Club Open House: Come enjoy the great view from the Pier, walk its length, and learn its history with a guided tour. Tour is free, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 14th Street and Boardwalk location. Bring dried or canned food for the Ocean City Food Cupboard. For more information, visit www.oceancityfishingclub.com.

Aug. 8: Eastern Surfing Association South District Contest #6. Registration at 7th Street Beach begins at 7 a.m. First heat in the water is at 8 a.m. Membership expired? You may renew or join at the beach. (No Wave Date, Aug. 15.) For information visit www.snjsurfesa.org.

Aug. 8: 40th annual boys and girls Surf Fishing Tournament: 9 a.m. to noon north end beach adjacent to Longport Bridge. Registration 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Bridge Parking Lot. Fishing 10 a.m. til noon. Parental supervision required. Must bring own bait. Awards in various age groups. Casting and fishing instruction provided. Sponsored by O.C. Fishing Club and O.C. Recreation Department. Weil Competition Winner Alexander Bui playing Chopin. Harpist Caitlin Mehrtens and flutist Hannah Hammel playing Mozart’s Harp and Flute Concerto. 8 p.m at Music Pier.
