Cape Assist Hosts Back-to-Back Holiday Movie Nights

Wildwood, NJ – Cape Assist has continued their newest tradition, (a tradition that started in the Fall of 2020 at the Cape May Ferry), holiday-themed Reels on Wheels for not one but two Christmas movie nights. The drive-in movie screenings were held in Lower and Upper Townships respectively on Dec. 9 and 10, with a free Grinch-themed double feature to bring the community together for the holidays.

Over at Richard M. Teitelman Middle School in Lower Township, cars filled with merry minds watched as the animated Grinch (2018) was displayed on the big screen in front of them. Over 30 vehicles showed up for this cozy viewing on a very chilly Friday night. The event’s sponsors, in addition to Cape Assist, came out to show their support. The movie event was sponsored by the Lower Township Healthy Youth Coalition – a community initiative of Cape Assist and the Coaching Boys Into Men Program, which provided moviegoers with complimentary Johnson’s Popcorn and water. The Cape May County Sheriff's Office and the Lower Township Municipal Alliance Committee (MAC) – long-time community partners of Cape Assist – were present for the movie event to assist moviegoers and interact with the many families in attendance.

Amanda’s Field in Upper Township hosted multiple cars during the second holiday night of the Reels on Wheels. Saturday’s feature was the classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). This was the second time Cape Assist and the Township of Upper held the drive-in movie night at this location this year, the first being held during the Halloween season. The event was held by The Cape May County Quit Center at Cape Assist and The Upper Township and Ocean City Municipal Alliance Committee (MAC), which brought out almost 40 vehicles. Attendees of the Upper Township movie event were each greeted with a $10 voucher to the concession stand, which the Upper Township Baseball ran. At the end of the event, Cape Assist reimbursed Upper Township Baseball for each voucher used during the movie – an agreement suggested by Cape Assist before the movie to support the local youth team.

“We enjoy bringing these events to our community because it helps remind people that we aren’t just the face they see when something goes wrong,” says Cape Assist’s Executive Director Katie Faldetta. “Reels on Wheels is our way of telling people that we are part of the community, and we are there for them whenever they need us.”

Cape Assist and their fellow non-profit and local organizations bring these events together in hopes of creating safe and fun weekend alternatives for the whole family. In the process, families get to learn more about the services that Cape Assist and other groups can offer.
