Cape Assist's Youth Mental Health First Aid Courses Begin Mid-January
Cape Assist's bi-monthly virtual courses aim to teach those working with youth to recognize, understand and respond to mental health.

Wildwood, NJ – One of Cape Assist’s core beliefs regarding mental health is prevention, a key action in the process of preparing our youth to make healthy decisions in the future. It is a skill which 2023’s Virtual Youth Mental Health Aid Course aims to teach to teachers, youth leaders, caregivers and more who work with youth in the community. The courses will be held every other month throughout the year beginning in January and can be attended virtually by Cape May County residents and employees.
The five-hour class provides mentors with the skills needed to identify and respond to youth in constructive ways when dealing with matters involving mental health and substance misuse.
“One in five children in America struggle with their mental health,” said Cape Assist Executive Director and CEO Katie Faldetta. “Studies have shown us that half of mental illnesses can begin by age 14 and some even earlier. Our goal is to prepare mentors to help our youth navigate these challenges safely and effectively.”
