Cape May County Seeks Film Ready Status To Attract TV, Movie Productions
Commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday to pursue a state designation aimed at easing film production.
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ — Cape May County is moving to position itself as a more attractive destination for film, television and digital media productions after the Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution Tuesday, June 23, to pursue “Film Ready” designation from the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission.
The designation is part of the New Jersey Film Ready program, a five-step certification and marketing initiative administered by the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission. According to the county, the program is designed to equip municipalities and counties with the knowledge, policies and streamlined processes needed to successfully host on-location filming.
Certified Film Ready communities benefit from statewide consistency in permitting, predictable fees, training workshops and enhanced visibility for productions seeking locations across New Jersey, according to the description of the program included with the county announcement. The resolution adopted by commissioners marks the county’s first formal step toward that certification.

“Becoming Film Ready will open new economic opportunities for Cape May County by making it easier and more attractive for productions to film here,” said Commissioner Director Leonard C. Desiderio. “Our beautiful beaches, historic sites, vibrant towns, and supportive business community provide an ideal backdrop for storytelling. By adopting these standards, we’re signaling to the film industry that Cape May County is open for business. We are ready to deliver the permits, services, and hospitality that help productions succeed while generating substantial benefits for our local hotels, restaurants, shops, and workforce.”
The county said film and television productions can bring economic impact through spending on lodging, dining, transportation, retail, professional services and local hires. The county also said productions can provide promotional exposure to national and international audiences.
