Car Show Weekend In Ocean City This Weekend

The Street Rod Show and Corvette Show are set for the same weekend, along with the John Cafferty concert and a free outdoor sock hop.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The annual Car Show weekend in Ocean City begins Friday. It will feature a downtown sock hop on Friday night, Sept. 8; the Street Rod Show on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8 and 9; a concert by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band on Saturday night, Sept. 9; and the always-popular Boardwalk Corvette Show on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Modified cars 30 years and older will be on display at the 43rd annual Classic Car and Street Rod Show. This year, the Corvette Show will take place on the same weekend. It features models from every year Corvettes were made, and takes place on the Boardwalk between Sixth Street and 14th Street on Sunday, Sept. 10, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band will take the stage on the Ocean City Music Pier on Saturday, Sept. 9, 8 p.m. The band recorded the soundtrack to “Eddie and the Cruisers” in the 1980s and reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts with the single “On the Dark Side.”

It has toured for more than 30 years. Tickets cost $25 to $30 and are available at the Ocean City Music Pier Box Office and city welcome centers, by visiting oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice or by calling 609-399-6111.

The street rods will be on display on the grounds of the Ocean City Tabernacle from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, before cruising down Asbury Avenue to the 1300 block (between 13th Street and 14th Street) at 6 p.m., according to Ocean City Public Information Officer Doug Bergen.

That block will be closed to traffic for a free outdoor sock hop featuring live music and games. Food vendors will include Johnny B. Goode Ice Cream Parlor and Boyar’s Market. The cars return to the Tabernacle on Saturday, Sept. 9, 8 a.m. to noon. On Sunday, they will be on display on the Boardwalk from noon to 4 p.m.
