Charity Fishing Event Set For Sunday In Ocean City

The event benefits children from multiple local charities. It is sponsored by the Marlin and Tuna Club and the Ocean City Yacht Club.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City Marlin and Tuna Club and the Ocean City Yacht Club will sponsor their 25th annual charity fishing event on Sunday, June 25. The event benefits children from the Philadelphia Variety Club Camp, the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization, and the Kids Challenge Baseball League from suburban Philadelphia.

Over 130 children and parents are expected to attend and enjoy a day of fishing on the Ocean City Bay. These children all have been dealt a difficult hand in life with either physical, mental, or family difficulties.

The families will be picked up at the Yacht Club by 25 sleek sports fishing boats, owned by members from the two clubs. They will then cruise to their favorite fishing spots in the bay behind Ocean City.

After a morning of fishing, they will return to weigh in their fish, have their pictures taken and enjoy a picnic lunch at the club. Fire engines and other emergency vehicles from the Ocean City Fire Department and Ocean City Police Department will be on hand during lunch to give the children a first hand look at their equipment and to answer their questions. The event concludes around 1:30 p.m.

“This event has proven to be an annual highlight for many of the families,” according to a release announcing the event. “It has also given the crews of the fishing boats a great sense of satisfaction to be able to share their good fortune.”
