Coastal Flood Advisory In New Jersey

The recent rain has created a bit of a flooding threat for the coastal areas of New Jersey.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect from noon until 6 p.m. on Thursday. The areas impacted are along the coastal areas of New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service.

For the counties impacted, this means:

• Minor flooding is expected around the time of Thursday afternoon's high tide.
• High tide on the New Jersey and Delaware oceanfront occurs between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
• High tide on the back bays, along the Delaware Bay and along the Raritan Bay, occurs later than the high tide on the oceanfront.
• A storm surge is expected, from 1.5 to 2 feet above the astronomical tide.
• Impacts: Localized roadway flooding is expected. Some roads may be closed due to the high water.

A coastal flood advisory means that minor tidal flooding is expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some road closures. Usually, the the most vulnerable roadways will flood.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to costly repairs, the National Weather Service says.
