Coastal Flood Advisory For Ocean City Tuesday Morning

Flooding may occur prior to high tide and last for several hours.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City will be under a Coastal Flood Advisory from 5 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Jan. 29, the National Weather Service announced. Water levels are expected to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side of Ocean City at about 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, according to a special weather statement issued by city officials on Monday.

Flooding may occur before high tide and last for several hours, officials warned. Residents should monitor conditions and be prepared to move vehicles from areas that typically experience flooding. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are at higher elevation. These roads also offer the safest routes of travel across the length of the island.

Forecasters project a tide of 5.9 feet on the mean low water scale. For proper context, check this chart sampling of Ocean City historic tides.

“Strong northeasterly winds overnight could push water into the back bays and contribute to flooding,” officials said. “The regularly predicted tide is higher than normal because of a full moon on Wednesday. Light snow is also in the forecast for Tuesday.”

Drivers should never attempt to drive through flood waters or around barricades. For police and fire department emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call 609-399-9111.
