Coastal Flood, High Wind Warnings In Effect For Ocean City Tuesday

Flooding is possible around high tides.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — A Coastal Flood Warning and a High Wind Warning will both be in effect for Ocean City on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service out of Mount Holly.

The Coastal Flood Warning is in effect from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The warning states moderate coastal flooding may occur for several hours around high tides.

High tides in Ocean City will take place at 10:14 a.m. and 10:37 p.m. on Tuesday. A tide that could reach seven feet on the mean low water scale is possible, city officials reiterated Monday morning.

By comparison, the January 2016 nor'easter (Jonas) reached 8.46 feet on the same scale, and tides during a storm on Jan. 23 of this year reached 7.22 feet.

The High Wind Warning is in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Sustained onshore winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph will generate storm surf that will prevent the back bays from fully draining at low tide.

Residents should secure loose objects on their property, and all contractors are asked to secure job sites.
