Flooding Around High Tides Possible In Ocean City

High tides Thursday night and Friday morning may result in moderate tidal flooding.

Ocean City, NJ -- Ocean City officials are advising visitors and residents to move vehicles from areas that typically experience flooding well in advance of two upcoming high tides as the National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning.

The warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday evening to 1 a.m. Friday morning. High tides are expected at 8:06 p.m. Thursday night and 8:30 a.m. Friday morning. Moderate titdal flooding is possible in connection with these high tides.

Rain and northeast winds gusting up to 46 mph will coincide with a naturally high tide as the new moon approaches on Friday.

The streets closest to the beach are generally the highest, and the city has waived fees at all parking meters and municipal parking lots.

Parking on the mainland will also be available at Trinity United Methodist Church in Marmora. The church is at 20 North Shore Road. Anyone moving their vehicles here is asked to park only in the grass field to leave parking lot spots open for the church.

The Ocean City Beach Patrol is off duty for the season, and residents and visitors are cautioned not to venture into extremely dangerous waters. Drivers should also avoid driving through flood waters.
