Council Vice President Launches Bid For Ocean City Mayor
Pete Madden will join Keith Hartzell and Jay Gillian in the 2026 mayor's race.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — Another member of the Ocean City Council has announced his bid for mayor.
Vice President Pete Madden is joining the race, setting up for a three-way challenge between him, Councilman Keith Hartzell and incumbent Mayor Jay Gillian.
"For more than 20 years, this community has been my home. Here, I built a business, raised my four children, and served on City Council," Madden said in his announcement. "Ocean City has given my family so much. I'm ready to give back."

Madden's announcement came as a surprise. It was made the last day that candidates could submit nominating petitions.
In his announcement, Madden emphasized "steady, responsible leadership" and integrity.

"We need clear communication, fiscal discipline and accountability at City Hall while protecting what makes our city special," he said.
Three City Council at-large seats are also up for election. Running are incumbents Tony Polcini and Sean Barnes, while newcomers Jocelyn Palaganas (currently on the Ocean City Board of Education) and Jim Kelly are also joining.
Election Day in Ocean City is May 12.
