Brown's pastels can be best described as a combination of nature and spirituality with the abstract and an urge for experimentation.
A graduate of Bradley University with a degree in fine art, Brown moved to the California Bay Area in the 1970s, where she developed an interest in health and food and became a registered dietitian. She practiced this occupation in New Jersey while always painting.
