Do You Believe? 17 Alleged UFO Sightings In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City's population swells up at certain times of year, but those visitors are terrestrial, as far as we know. Several people have described UFO sightings in Ocean City over the years to the National UFO Reporting Center.

The New York Times recently reported that Navy pilots observed unidentified flying objects "almost daily" between 2014-15, including one that resembled a "spinning top moving against the wind." No official explanation exists for the consistent sightings, but a Navy spokesperson told the Times a few of them could have been unlicensed drones.

The NUFORC is an independent organization that's been around since 1974. The group, which has assisted police departments when people report their observations to 911, has put together a list of more than 90,000 sightings around the world. Anyone can submit a potential sighting to NUFORC, but they omit clear jokes and hoaxes.

Here are NUFORC's records on Ocean City's alleged UFO sightings through the years:

1. 9/20/17, 5:53 a.m.: Black triangular UFO with one light with military plane going by it, drive by it, hovering for a minute from the bay to the ocean right after a hurricane was clearing.
2. 9/14/16, 8:30 p.m.: Amber color lights appear to bright and dim. One light appears dim, moves slightly, brightens and disappears 10 minutes or so before reappearing, brightening and dimming.
3. 9/28/14, 7 a.m.: Red and green flashing lights object moved in and out of clouds and stopped then just green lights flashed. The object moved around and both red and green lights flashed. It stopped and then left. The witness tried to capture it on camera and it did not appear in picture. It was as high high up as a plane would be.
4. 8/16/14, midnight: Three orangish lights in a triangular formation sighted while sitting outside on my balcony. Sitting on my balcony, witness saw one bright light moving slowly across the sky, another followed behind.
5. 8/9/14, 11:30 p.m.: Red-orange fireball shapes, flying south to north along the coast. Object didn't fade out of sight but simply disappeared. It made no sound.
6. 5/31/14, 11 p.m.: Three lights (one red, two white) zig zagging fast around each other but moving slowly across the sky.
7. 7/30/13, 9 p.m.: Three glowing lights over the ocean.
8. 2/4/13, 9 p.m.: Two objects on bay between parkway exits 10 and 25.
9. 12/6/12, 6:45 p.m.: "While stopped at an intersection, I glanced at the sky and noticed four white blinking lights in the form of a 'V.' At first, I dismissed them as airplanes, but upon further inspection noticed that they were changing formation and did not produce any audible sound. My passenger instructed me to pull over, and I suggested we attempt to record a video on her cellular phone as evidence. However, the objects did not show well on the video, likely due to the abundance of street lamps overhead. Soon after, a passenger plane appeared to pass below the objects. This is when the story grew to be especially peculiar. For the rest of the evening, my family and I heard military jets and helicopters hovering through the area, appearing to be searching for something."
10. 10/24/12, 6:23 p.m.: A bright white orb appeared to hover above the ground for two minutes before disappearing.
11. 7/20/09, 10 p.m.: Blinking and bright orange lights out at sea, east of Ocean City.
12. 7/19/09, 10:30 p.m.: Star lights moving in mass omitting orange balls.
13. 11/9/08, 5:30 p.m.: "The weather condition were clear with some clouds and temperatures in the low 50’s. I saw two UFO’s in the sky south from me. They both appeared circular objects with multicolor lights. I stayed and watched them for 10-15 minutes and they didn’t appear to move. The colors in the objects were white light and light shades of blue. I asked my wife to look and she verified exactly what I saw."
14. 8/17/08, 10:30 a.m.: "I was on my way to Cape May,NJ with my wife and 2 sons,and while driving on NJ-42 south,I spotted something in the distant sky that looked like a blimp. ... We could see that this was definitely not a plane or helicopter and there was no way a blimp could get so far away from us so quickly as we were doing about 75mph.It was a blueish colored object that at times would look more round,but over all looked like a blimp."
15. 8/2/08, 10:45 p.m.: Round object flying from south extremely quickly, but evenly. Seemed to be hazy and, therefore, was blurred slightly.
16. 6/1/78, 8 p.m.: Triangle of 3 lights, hovered over condominium, no sound, departed with incredible speed.
17. 8/15/70, 12:30 a.m.: 1970 sighting of two disks flying with U.S. military formation at New Jersey shore.
