Residents can drop off unneeded prescription medications anonymously at two Ocean City sites on Saturday, Oct. 24.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City residents will have two places to drop off unneeded prescription medications during the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The Ocean City Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will participate in the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the atrium outside the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Ave., and at the Ocean City Police Department substation, 837 8th St.
According to the announcement, the event is designed to help people get rid of medications that are old, unwanted or expired. The DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at more than 4,000 local drop-off locations nationwide.

The event has been held for more than a decade. According to the announcement, it has helped Americans remove unneeded medications from their homes, where they can become a gateway to addiction. In partnership with local law enforcement, Take Back Day has removed more than 8,300 tons of medication from circulation since its inception.
Residents who plan to take part should note that collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps or illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container, according to the announcement. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
