A large earthquake in Delaware was felt in New Jersey on Thursday, the United States Geological Survey confirmed.

The USGS said a 4.4 magnitude earthquake was detected near Dover at 4:47 p.m. Thursday, but the shakes from the quake were felt nearly across New Jersey.

"It felt like the basement was shifting while the rest of the house swayed," said Joni Passalacqua of Manchester. "The water in the fish tank moved as well."

"Minor Earthquake was reported in the area...Please only use 911 if there are emergencies and not to report damage. More information to follow and confirmation if this actually was a tremor."

It was too early to tell if there was any damage from the quake, but there was plenty of chatter on social media.
