EMTs Deliver Baby In Car Parked On Side Of Garden State Parkway

It's a girl! Baby Amelia was born at 9:18 p.m. on Nov. 21 - in her mom's car on the roadside, thanks to Upper Township first responders.

UPPER TWP., NJ — A bouncing baby girl was brought into the world Thursday night in a way that certainly will serve as a one-of-a-kind family anecdote for years to come - her mother gave birth in her car, parked on the side of the Garden State Parkway, thanks to the work of Upper Township emergency responders.

It was 9:03 p.m. when Upper Township EMS Squad 21 and Seaville Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to the northbound side of the Parkway for the report of a woman in labor, Seaville Fire Rescue shared in a Facebook post.

Deputy Chief Brian Allegretto arrived on the scene at 9:09 p.m., along with state police, Upper Township's ambulance and Seaville's firetruck.

Allegretto, also a paramedic, and EMTs Jessica Wriggins and William Handley assessed the mom-to-be and found that delivery was imminent. So, they prepared for delivery in her car.

And at 9:18 p.m., the baby girl came into the world, with no complications.

After baby was delivered and tended to, she and mom were loaded into the ambulance and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus.

As of 1 a.m. on Nov. 22, both mom and baby Amelia Charlotte are well, according to Seaville Fire Rescue.

According to Seaville firefighters, it is standard procedure for the volunteer fire department to be dispatched with Upper Township's ambulance for medical calls on the Garden State Parkway.
