Humane Sociey of Ocean City "Barks on the Boards"
The Humane Society of Ocean City is busy planning its annual "Barks on the Boards" event and this year promises to be bigger than ever. The event being held on Sunday, May 27 (Memorial Day weekend) from noon until 2pm marks one of the very few occasions dog's are allowed on the Ocean City Boardwalk. Individual walkers and families register the same way they would for a regular 5k walk or run, collecting money from sponsors who donate on their behalf, except at "Barks on the Boards," dogs are invited to attend as well.
The walk starts at the Music Pier, on the Ocean City Boardwalk between 8th and 9th streets, with registration beginning at 11:30 AM. There will be raffles, contests, and prizes will be awarded. All of the money raised will go directly towards care of the animals at the shelter. All dogs must have current rabies vaccinations and must be leashed at all times. The shelter recommends that dogs under three months of age should sit out until next year. Pledge forms are available through the shelter's website www.HSOCnj.org.

"Every year we see more and more families attend this event. Memorial Day weekend has always marked the beginning of the Summer season and we are so glad to see that so many families are making 'Barks,' part of that tradition. Every year we are surprised by how much the event grows," said Bill Hollingsworth, Executive Director of the shelter.
The Humane Society of Ocean City operates a no-kill animal shelter and adoption center, as well as low cost spay/neuter and wellness clinics. They are a private 501(c) 3 organization that relies on donations for support.
