Ex-Eagle Jon Dorenbos Returns To Ocean City For May Magic Show

He will perform a magic show that mixes in inspirational stories during an appearance at the Ocean City Music Pier on May 12.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Former Philadelphia Eagles long-snapper Jon Dorenbos is coming back to Ocean City. He will perform a magic show that mixes in inspirational stories during an appearance at the Ocean City Music Pier on May 12, officials announced on Friday.

The NFL star’s career ended before the last season when doctors discovered an aortic aneurysm and performed immediate open-heart surgery. Though he had been traded to the New Orleans Saints, the Eagles gave him a Super Bowl ring in honor of his dedication to Philadelphia.

The 14-year NFL veteran says magic saved his life, and he has a story to back it up. When he was 12 years old, his father murdered his mother. He openly shares this childhood tragedy with audiences in an inspirational show about rising through adversity, setting goals no matter how high, and planning the necessary steps to achieve those goals. His setback before the NFL season will likely become part of the show.

Dorenbos became a “master magician” the same year as the tragedy, and he’s been perfecting his craft ever since. He played football for the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) and was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2003. He made his name as the long snapper for the Eagles.

Dorenbos gained the attention of the non-football world during his run to the top of the NBC television competition “America’s Got Talent.” He placed third overall in the contest after surviving many elimination rounds.

This will be the second straight year Dorenbos performs in Ocean City, as he performed last spring in a show that sold out in just a few days.

This year’s show is set for 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at the Music Pier. Tickets are $45, $35 and $30 and go on sale on Thursday, March 15. They will be available at oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice, by calling 609-399-6111, or in person at the City Hall Welcome Center or the Roy Gillian Welcome Center on the Route 52 causeway.

Dorenbos will be on hand earlier in the day as Ocean City’s hermit-crab mascot, Martin Z. Mollusk, seeks his shadow in an always flawless effort to predict an early summer. Martin Z. Mollusk has never failed to deliver in his efforts. The free family event takes place at 11 a.m. on the beach at Ninth Street.
