Excessive Heat Warning in Effect in Cape May, Atlantic Counties This Weekend

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for Atlantic and Cape May counties this weekend, the National Weather Service announced Friday afternoon.

The warning will be in effect from noon Saturday until 9 p.m. Sunday.

Heat index values are expected to be between 108 and 113 on Saturday, and 106 and 111 on Sunday.

The peak periods for heat will be in the afternoon and early evening, but possible thunderstorms each day may bring some temporary relief.

Residents with chronic health issues such as lung and heart diseases, people working outside and the elderly are at an increased risk for heat-related problems.

They are advised to stay out of the sun, drink plenty of fluids and stay in air-conditioned rooms.

Residents should check up on elderly neighbors and family members, and are reminded not to leave children and pets alone in cars for any period of time under any circumstances.

Strenuous activity should be rescheduled for the early morning or evening, and anyone suffering from heat stroke should call 911.
