Fatal Hit-And-Run Suspect Identified: NJ State Police

The man responsible for striking and killing a pedestrian in Upper Township on Dec. 29 is in custody, according to New Jersey State Police.

UPPER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Officials have identified the man responsible for a fatal South Jersey hit-and-run, according to New Jersey State Police.

State Police shared an update Tuesday saying that the man, still unidentified, had been located and taken into custody.

"The individual who is responsible for this crime has been identified and is in custody," State Police said. "Thank you to everyone for your assistance in this case."

The identity of the man and what charges he may be facing were not released by officials.

On Dec. 29, a crash occurred around 6:28 p.m. at the intersection of Stagecoach Road and Brewhause Lane in Upper Township, police said.

A car traveling north on Stagecoach Road struck a pedestrian and left before State Police arrived, witnesses told police.

The pedestrian, identified as 80-year-old Marjorie Straubmuller according to 6abc News, died from her injuries.
