Five Things to Know From the Sept. 24 Ocean City Council Meeting
What happened during Thursday night's meeting?
At Thursday night’s meeting, Ocean City Council discussed the seat left vacant when Michael Allegretto resigned, and praised the opening of the new skateboard park.
What else happened Thursday night? Here are five things you need to know from last week’s Ocean City Council Meeting:
- City Council gave final approval to an ordinance that amends the zoning and land development ordinance so that yoga studios are now permitted in the Neighborhood Business Zone. This was done in an effort to diversify the zone and help it survive. There are no other alterations currently under consideration, but the city is open suggestions, City Solicitor Dorothy McCrosson said previously.
- City Council approved a resolution to amend its shared services agreement with a group of municipalities to use the services of Attorney Jeffrey R. Surenian in the ongoing legal debate of Affordable Housing regulations in New Jersey. Surenian replaces Rutgers University professor Dr. Robert Burchell as the expert to oversee the calculation of the municipality’s Affordable Housing Obligation. Burchell was originally designated as the expert, but has since fallen ill.
- City Council approved the advertisement of specifications for a project that includes reconstruction of two bulkheads and their adjoining roads and adjacent drainage. The bulkheads are on 11th Street and West 17th Street.
- City Council approved the awarding of a $28,870 contract to Vendor NJEV to oversee necessary upgrades to police and fire safety equipment after the city entered into an agreement with the county to be the lead member of the Cape May County Regional Urban Search Team.
- City Council approved the awarding of a contract to Junetta N. Dix Consulting for environmental consultation on the following schedule through Sept. 30 of next year: $112 an hour for an environmental specialist; $143 an hour for an engineer/surveyor; $97 for an engineer technician; $76 for an Auto CAD Specialist; and $50 an hour for clerical work.
