Flash Flood Watch, High Wind Advisory For Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, NJ — A Flash Flood Watch and a High Wind Advisory will be in effect for Ocean City over the next two days, officials announced Sunday morning.

The Flash Flood Watch will be in effect from noon to midnight on Sunday, and the High Wind Advisory will be in effect from 2 a.m. to noon on Monday, officials said in a special weather statement.

Due to its low elevation, Ocean City does not experience flash floods, but if heavy rain coincides with high tide, street flooding could occur. The latest forecast calls for 3 inches of rain on Sunday with higher amounts possible. High tide on the bay side of Ocean City at the Ninth Street Bridge will come at 4:04 p.m. Sunday.

Residents and guests should be prepared to move vehicles from areas that typically experience flooding. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. These roads also offer the safest routes of travel across the length of the island.

Parking will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora. Anyone who intends to take advantage of this service should read this letter from Trinity first.

Drivers should never attempt to drive through flood waters or around barricades for their own safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties.
