Flood Advisory For Ocean City Tuesday Night

Street flooding is likely prior to Tuesday's high tide, and may last for several hours.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Ocean City Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service. The advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Water levels are expected to peak around high tide, which is expected at 8:24 p.m. in Ocean City, officials said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. The tide could exceed 6 feet on the mean low water scale.

For comparison, Jonas reached 8.46 feet on the same scale in January of 2016. Tides during a storm on Jan. 23 of this year reached 7.22 feet, and they reached 5.81 feet on April 6.

Street flooding is likely prior to high tide, and may last for several hours. Vehicles should be moved from areas that typically experience tidal flooding.

The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation.
The next high tide after the one Tuesday night is expected at 8:51 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Rain and strong easterly winds are expected to contribute to flooding. The regularly predicted tide is higher than normal because of a new moon on Wednesday.
