F&M Returns to Ocean City

The deli-restaurant, a presence in town for eight years, is back at 12th & Asbury after a brief absence.

, after eight years on the city's restaurant scene, reclaimed the corner of 12th Street and Asbury Avenue last Friday when it replaced the short-lived JD's Clubhouse.

JD's, which had leased the building from F&M, had opened in mid-July. Its six-week run ended last week when F&M papered over JD's signs, mounted its own signs in windows, and started serving breakfast and lunch daily. Dinner, in addition to breakfast and lunch, is served Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant is closed Tuesdays.

"It didn't work out," said Rita Fezzuoglio of the lease arrangement with JD's.

Rita's husband, Danny, owns F&M. Danny Fezzuoglio's brother Felix, the "F" in F&M, died a year ago, after his eighth season in Ocean City.  Felix's death left the family wondering if they could continue to operate their Ocean City location seasonally while simultaneously continuing to run their larger, busier original F&M, which has been open year-round for 42 years in Mount Laurel.

Having opted to lease the building once this season and having seen that plan fail, Rita Fezzuoglio said the family gave no thought to looking for another lessee. Instead, F&M has returned with its signature grilled pastrami sandwiches and other food items that loyal customers are happily embracing.

"Everyone is glad to see us back," she said. "Our customers are like family. We have a lot of customers in Mount Laurel who vacation in Ocean City, and they've been coming in to say they're glad to see us back in Ocean City."
