'Footloose, the Musical' at the Ocean City Music Pier This Weekend

Ocean City, NJ -- The Ocean City Theatre Company’s Junior Company presents “Footloose, the Musical” on July 29 and 30 at the Ocean City Music Pier, 7:30 p.m.

This fully staged production will feature a cast of select high school students from across the Delaware Valley, and is directed by Billy D. Hart and Andrew Hink.

The storyline of this exciting musical is one many people are familiar with.

From the theater company:
When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school.
What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home.
When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid.
The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.
To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, “Footloose, the Musical” celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

The Ocean City Theatre Company’s Junior Company auditions students from 6th - 12th grade (from Ocean City and the surrounding areas) and allows them to work with a professional production staff to create hands on performing opportunities.

Participants take part in classes, rehearse and perform a full-scale musical with professional designers and directors.

"Footloose, the Musical" features students in the High School Junior Company.

The Middle School Junior Company will present "Cinderella" on Aug. 26 and 27 at the Ocean City Music Pier.

“Footloose, the Musical” by Dean Pritchford, is produced by special arrangement with the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization out of New York.
