Former Miss New Jersey In Critical Condition After Car Accident

Cara McCollum was involved in an accident Monday night.

A former Miss New Jersey and current TV anchor for SNJ Today from Atlantic County is in critical condition following an accident on Route 55 in Salem County, New Jersey State Police said.

Cara McCollum, 24, of Margate, lost control of her 2014 Ford Mustang convertible and hit a tree head-on on the dirt shoulder near mile marker 38.4 at about 6:53 p.m. Monday night.

McCollum’s car then rotated and hit two more trees before it came to a stop.

She suffered serious head wounds and was taken to Cooper Health Systems in Camden.

She was the only person in the car at the time of the crash. The accident remains under investigation.

“Cara is a beloved member of our SNJ Today family,” the Millville-based TV station posted on its Facebook page. “She and her family are in our thoughts and prayers.”

McCollum won the Miss New Jersey Pageant in 2013. She is a graduate of Princeton University.
