"GLEE" Takes Over Ocean City High School With American Sign Language Show

Students in the ASL classes performed to raise money for Haiti.

Amy Anderson's American Sign Language Class knew exactly what they wanted to do for this years show: Glee.

Since the hit Fox television show Glee has taken over minds of tweens and teens, it perfectly fit as the theme.

Each song that Glee performs on the show, is a cover of popular songs from Journey to Britney Spear. With 14 songs performed and over 30 kids involved, the show was a great time.

Every year, the ASL show raises money for a charity. After the earthquake in Haiti in January 2010, children were left with no schooling, among other things. By raising money, the ASL class helped pay for a sign language teacher at the school.

Two students were chosen for the ASL scholarships. The requirement for the award is that the student must be enrolled as a Sign Language major.

Molly Ensminger, 18, and Cat Willett, 18 both received the high honor. Ensminger will head to Kent University in the fall and Willet to Towson.

In addition to these awards, Andersen announced that two other students had won first and second place in a national competition.

The Honor Society Literature Competition winners are Robert Gray, 18, with first place, and Kaitlyn Spry, 17, with second place. The two students from OCHS won by video recording a sign language story they created. Out of over two hundred students, the two winners are from Ocean City High School. Andersen is excited about the success of her students.

The event had a great turnout and the crowd enjoyed the show. Members of the audience included deaf folks who came to support the show.
