OCEAN CITY, NJ — Environmental cleanup was recently completed at a block in Ocean City. Now, officials are seeking the public's input on how to best preserve this as open space.

The city acquired the entire block from 16th Street to 17th Street between Haven Avenue and Simpson Avenue several years ago, and the soil was contaminated from its previous owner. Remediation is now complete, except for monitoring wells that are being maintained, officials said.

The block was acquired to prevent dense residential development, according to city officials.

Officials want feedback on how best to preserve this tract while providing for the enjoyment of the public. The new open space is part of a corridor of public land that stretches from 15th Street to 20th Street and includes the Ocean City Community Center and Ocean City Intermediate School, along with existing recreational facilities. The city would like to consider the entire corridor as it creates its plans.
