Greg DiAntonio Memorial Makes Donation to Support Summer Camp

Wildwood – The Greg DiAntonio Memorial made a donation of $1,000 in support of the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office Youth Summer Camp sponsored by Cape Assist. The money will be used to help pay for activities like trips to Morey’s Piers Raging Waters Water Park and other activities such as laser tag during the camp, which begins July 18.

“We are so thankful to Kreni and Pat DiAntonio for their continued support,” said Cape Assist Executive Director Katie Faldetta. “They have supported our efforts to provide support and resources for youth in the Cape May County area. Having community partners such as the DiAntonio’s really is what coming together is all about.”

Lead by Lt. Joseph Landis of the Prosecutor’s Office and Cape Assist’s Nikki Nichols, the annual camp’s main objective is to grow relationships and build connections between law enforcement and local youth. This year, the camp has reached a total of 26 participants for the duration of the camp, ending on July 22.

The Greg DiAntonio Memorial was named after the young man who lost his battle with substance misuse. The nonprofit organization focuses on two specific areas: educating the community and creating a platform substance misuse awareness. These values hold true to Cape Assist’s focus, creating a powerhouse partnership for opportunities like the youth camps spread throughout the county.

Cape Assist, a Wildwood-based nonprofit, has been leading the charge in addressing ACEs throughout the county. Studies show that just one relationship with a trusted adult can help limit the effect of ACEs for a child. ACEs are traumatic events that negatively affect brain development in ways that cause lasting health challenges, both emotional and physical. More than 40% of children in NJ – more than 782,000 – are estimated to have experienced one ACE, and 18% of children are estimated to have experienced multiple ACEs. But, research has shown that ACEs can be counterbalanced through positive experiences, support, and nurturing relationships, like Cape Assist sponsored Youth Camps.

“Having a strong network and support system of leaders and role models within our community will help our youth feel comfortable and confident coming to them when they need it,” said Kreni DiAntonio. “We’re grateful be able to support programs like these.”

Last year, 114 kids participated in three Police Youth Camps throughout Cape May County. By the end of this summer, over 200 campers will have participated in five Cape May County camps.
