Group offers support for loved ones impacted by addiction

October is recognized as National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, offering an opportunity to highlight prevention strategies and recovery efforts – along with those who help loved ones suffering from addiction.

Being a pillar of strength for someone battling addiction can be extremely challenging. Cape Assist, a substance abuse prevention and treatment agency, recognizes the need for caregivers to have help of their own. The agency is offering a support group for significant others, parents and other adults affected by a loved one’s addiction.

The Community Reinforcement and Family Training (C.R.A.F.T.) program empowers participants to take care of themselves and their families, using strategies to mitigate the negative impact of behavior associated with substance abuse.

The group meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month (currently on Zoom). Members do not have to be clients of Cape Assist to participate, and the program is free to attend, thanks to funding provided by the Cape May County Freeholders.
