He Got A Car, Then Died In A Crash. N.J. High School Senior's Still Getting Diploma, Friends Say.

It's the least they could do. Because Jamie Klecz, 17, got to live out a few dreams before he died. Getting his diploma was one of them.

It's the least they could do.

Because Jamie Klecz got to live out a few dreams before he died: Riding his dirt bike everywhere he wanted, getting a car.

After that, he just wanted his diploma.

So his friends at Lower Cape May Regional High School are trying to accommodate, hoping that they can reward him in Heaven some day.

With numerous social media tributes pouring in, his friends started an online petition to get Klecz his diploma, garnering 415 signatures as of Sunday morning - a week after the horrific accident in which Klecz's car hit a tree, police said.

"As many already know, on December 3rd, Jamie Klecz was in a bad accident that took away his life the next day," according to the petition, which you can find by clicking here.

"He was young, with an amazing life ahead of him that was taken too soon. He never got the chance to do so many things, one being [his desire to] graduate."

"He went through hell and back, and worked so hard. I believe, as well as many others, in and apart from the class of 2017, that he should receive his diploma. It was something he strived for and although he won't be able to walk with us, he should not have tried so hard for nothing."

The 17-year-old was killed on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 8:35 p.m. in a single vehicle motor vehicle crash, according to the Lower Township police.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to pay for his funeral, and pictures have been posted showing Klecz doing one of his favorite things: Dirt-bike riding.

The tributes also have been rolling in on social media, and some of them showed the anguish his friends went through as reality set in.

First, it was reported he was unconscious and critical. Friends kept vigil for hours until the end came.

A makeshift memorial also has been set up at the site where the accident occurred: Fulling Mill Road in the Villas section of Lower Township.

Initially, police were responding to a report that the car overturned, and the driver was entrapped. But Lower Township said they found a 1995 black 2-door Nissan 200 SX that had struck a tree head on.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was the driver, whom friends identified as Jamie Klecz and resided in the Villas section of Lower Township, police said.

An investigation revealed that the vehicle was heading eastbound when it crossed the center line, and then continued into the oncoming lane. It then left the roadway on the north side of Fulling Mill Road, where it side-swiped a tree, and then hit a second tree head on.

Klecz sustained serious injuries and was unconscious when officers, Lower Township Rescue, and Villas Fire Department personnel arrived on scene. Immediate lifesaving measures were taken, and a Medivac Helicopter was requested to transport the driver to Atlantic Care Medical Center for further treatment

As the circumstances surrounding the cause of the accident are still being investigated, other tributes have come, with other fund-raising requests to offset funeral expenses for the family.

Some, of course, continue to show the shock and horror people are feeling about the tragedy.

But, for many, it was the diploma that became first priority. Because it was what he wanted and requested for himself.

As the petition says:

"We, the Class Of 2017, call on Lower Cape May Regional High School to allow Jamie Klecz to graduate. He lost his life too soon but before this time, he tried his hardest in everything he did.
"He struggled to succeed in school. He was a great person inside and out and it is people such as him who deserve their diploma. All he ever wanted was to graduate. I believe that anything is possible and in this situation I believe he should be able to succeed beyond the grave."
