Hear The Story Of The Sindia Rescue In Ocean City Saturday
Historian John Loeper will tell the story of the rescue on its 117th anniversary.

OCEAN CITY, NJ - Historian John Loeper will discuss the story of the Sindia rescue at the newly restored Ocean City Life Saving Station on the 117th anniversary of the rescue, city officials announced.
The four-masted Sindia ran aground in a nor'easter 117 years ago, on Dec. 15, 1901. The tall ship came to rest just off the beach at 17th Street in Ocean City. On Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, Loeper will tell the story of the foundering ship and the rescue by the men of U.S. Life Saving Station 30.
The free talk is open to the public and will take place at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. at the newly restored Station at the intersection of Fourth Street and Atlantic Avenue. The historic structure is home to examples of the same equipment used in the rescue.
