Help Name Baby Watusi At Cape May County Zoo
Cider, Gourdy or Rusty? Pick which name you think suits this baby Watusi best with a donation to the Cape May County Zoo.
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ — An adorable baby Ankole-Watusi was born at the Cape May County Zoo this fall, and zookeepers are seeking the public's help in naming the cattle.
The male calf was born at the zoo on Nov. 6, to mom Darla and dad Howie. This is Darla's second calf. Her first, a girl named Pumpkin, was born last year.
Keeping on theme with Pumpkin's name and the fact that this calf was born in the fall, keepers have proposed three names: Cider, Gourdy and Rusty.

Which one suits him best? That's where the voting comes into play. You can help pick his name and support him at the same time - the zoo requests a $5 donation in order to vote.
"Every donation, big or small benefits, but putting your vote in the comments won't feed this hungry calf," the zoo said.

In the meantime, you can see the baby Watusi at the zoo, following his mom around and nursing. The herd can be viewed year-round from the zoo's Savanna boardwalk.
Watusi cattle are a domestic breed originating in Africa. They were imported to the U.S. from Europe in the 1900s for their striking appearance. Their horns can reach 4 to 6 feet in length and are used to help keep them cool. These cattle are incredibly hardy, easily tolerating temperatures from 20 to 120 degrees.
