High School Basketball Season Tips Off in Ocean City This Weekend

The Ocean City PBA Tip-Off concludes with an Ocean City vs. Mainland doubleheader on Sunday.

The high school basketball season tips off this weekend with 10 games at Ocean City High School.

For the second year in a row, the Ocean City PBA Tipoff concludes on Sunday with the Jack Boyd Memorial Doubleheader, according to the Ocean City Gazette.

Jack Boyd was a coach at Ocean City High School, and his sons played at Mainland, according to the report. Those two schools meet in a boy-girl doubleheader , beginning at 5:15 p.m.

The girls play first, followed by the boys at 7 p.m.

The girls won the Cape-Atlantic League title last season, and leading scorer Olivia Briggs returns for her senior season, according to the Courier Post, which has the Red Raiders ranked sixth in South Jersey in the preseason.

The boys have higher expectations as well this season, according to the Ocean City Gazette. Senior Connor Laverty was one of the top scorers in the Cape-Atlantic League last season with 18.3 points per game. The boys open their season Friday night at St. Augustine Prep, 6 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 19:

Girls: Middle Township vs. Southern Regional, noon

Girls: Holy Spirit vs. ACIT, 1:45 p.m.

Boys: Holy Spirit vs. Atlantic Christian, 3:30 p.m.

Boys: Wildwood Catholic vs. Southern Regional, 5:15 p.m.

Boys: St. Augustine Prep vs. Newark Tech, 7 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 20:

Girls: Egg Harbor Township vs. Wildwood Catholic, noon

Boys: Egg Harbor Township vs. St. Joseph, 1:45 p.m.

Boys: Timber Creek vs. Atlantic City, 3:30 p.m.

Girls: Ocean City vs. Mainland, 5:15 p.m.

Boys: Ocean City vs. Mainland, 7 p.m.
