Human Rights Day Event At Ocean City Library Monday Night

Zubayra Shamseden and Nicole Morgret will give a presentation on " China's Other Tibet – Uyghur Human Rights."

OCEAN CITY, NJ - South Jersey Amnesty will host an International Human Rights Day commemoration on Monday night, Dec. 10, 7 p.m., at the Ocean City Library lecture hall, 1735 Simpson Avenue. Zubayra Shamseden and Nicole Morgret will give a presentation on “ China’s Other Tibet – Uyghur Human Rights.”

The ethnic Uyghurs trace their culture back over 4,000 years, and this East Turkestan- Central Asian country was taken over by the Nationalist Government in 1949. The Chinese government considers the Uyghur identity, religion, culture and language as evidence of political disloyalty, and separation. As a result, one million Uyghurs have been put into concentration camps leaving thousands of children in Chinese run orphanages.

Shamseden is a scholar, and a specialist in human rights in East Turkestan/Xinjiang Province of China where the ethnic Turkic peoples, Uyhgurs, are undergoing the same cultural, and societal decimation as the Tibetans.
