Jon Dorenbos, Martin Z. Mollusk Take Center Stage In Ocean City
Find out when summer begins, then go see a magic show on the Music Pier.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — When does summer start? Find out this weekend in Ocean City. Ocean City’s hermit-crab mascot seeks his shadow in a local version of Groundhog Day on Saturday, May 13, 11 a.m. on the beach at Ninth Street.
Martin Z. Mollusk has successfully predicted an early summer every year for more than four decades, although his impressive record has benefitted from some creative squinting and use of flashlights by his handlers.
Philadelphia Eagles long-snapper Jon Dorenbos will be the special guest. Dorenbos was a star in the 11th season of NBC’s hit television show “America’s Got Talent.” He impressed the world with his magic performances, and he may have a special trick in hand to introduce Martin to all those who will be cheering for an early summer.

Saturday morning’s program will include musical performances and the debut of the Martin Z. Mollusk balloon, an inflated likeness of Ocean City’s beloved mascot.
Dorenbos will return to the Ocean City Music Pier at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a sold-out magic show. Fans gobbled up all tickets for the event within days of the show’s announcement in February, according to city officials.

When Dorenbos was 12, his father killed his mother. He openly shares this childhood tragedy with audiences in an inspirational show about rising through adversity, setting goals no matter how high, and planning the necessary steps to achieve those goals.
Dorenbos became a “master magician” the same year as the tragedy, and he’s been perfecting his craft ever since. He played football for the University of Texas El Paso. He was an undrafted free agent for the Buffalo Bills in 2003.
Fourteen seasons later, he is an essential part of the Eagles’ lineup as a long snapper. His value to the team was even more evident when he broke his wrist this season, and the team struggled to find a worthy replacement.
