Learn About Offshore Wind In South Jersey With Livestream
Cape May County is hosting a public information session on offshore wind with Commissioner Director Len Desiderio and Rep. Jeff Van Drew.
CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ — A public information session is set for June 24 to discuss Orsted's Ocean Wind 1 and Ocean Wind 2 offshore wind farm projects.
Hosted by Cape May County Commissioner Director Len Desiderio and Rep. Jeff Van Drew, a flyer for the event promises to share "what second-homeowners, small businesses and residents need to know about the potential negative impacts" of the projects.

The session will be livestreamed from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; you can watch it by going to CapeWindInfo.com.
This meeting comes on the heels of the county announcing that they had hired two additional law firms to strengthen in their fight against offshore wind.

"The plan to create a superhighway of windmills off of our beaches should be halted until studies can be completed to answer the questions about the whales and other serious negative environmental and economic impacts that are likely to occur," Desiderio said in a previous release.

Anti-wind groups Save LBI, Protect Our Coast NJ and Defend Brigantine Beach recently filed suit challenging the NJDEP approval of the Ocean Wind 1 project, according to a news release from the groups.
"This is the first of a series of lawsuits that will challenge the federal and state government's targeting of New Jersey's coast with a vast industrial project that will permanently damage the ocean environment and our shore communities," said Keith Moore, head of government affairs for Defend Brigantine Beach.

Many believe there to be a link between marine mammal deaths and offshore wind, which has sparked concerns statewide.
The DEP has previously said that there is no solid evidence linking whale deaths, which have been of concern to researchers since 2016, predating wind projects in New Jersey, to offshore wind activities. Read more: NJ Whale Deaths Explained By DEP
