Lower Township Police Officers Lose Jobs After Bike Theft: Report
The officers took two bikes from Cape May. Now, they've left their jobs as part of a plea deal, according to a report.
LOWER TOWNSHIP, NJ β In October, two Lower Township police officers stole bikes from a bike rack in Cape May. Now, they've lost their jobs as part of a plea deal with Cape May County prosecutors, NJ.com reports.
Surveillance cameras captured Eric Campbell and Austin Craig on Oct. 8 taking bicycles from Decatur Street in Cape May, the news outlet said.
βBoth officers entered into pretrial intervention,β Lt. Daniel D. Holt of the Cape May Prosecutorβs Office said according to NJ.com. βPart of this plea agreement is that they are prohibited from public employment within Cape May County. Both officers have resigned their positions with the Lower Township Police Department.β

The two were charged with fourth degree theft last year, the report said. Pretrial intervention is a program for first-time offenders who, when completed, will have no criminal record.
