The 11- and 12-year-old all-stars fall, 7-6, to Toms River in the Joe Graziano State Championship.

It was a battle from start to finish, but in the end, Ocean City-Upper Township’s valiant effort fell just short, as the all-stars lost to Toms River Little League, 7-6, at the Joe Graziano State Little League Championships on Monday night at Berkeley Little League in Bayville.

Down to its final out, Ocean City had what appeared to be its best opportunity: bases loaded, slugger Eric Greening at the plate, with a 2-0 count and a nervous Toms River pitcher. But Toms River countered with a pitching change, bringing in Kayla Roncin to finish off the relief effort.

Greening hit a solid fly ball that looked to be dropping in for a hit, but Toms River’s starting pitcher-turned-centerfielder, Jon Giordano, made a running, diving catch to end Ocean City’-Upper Township’s dream comeback.
