Man Charged With Killing His Mom, 74, In Ocean City: Prosecutor
Jeffrey Surgent called police and told them he had just killed his 74-year-old mother, according to authorities.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — An Ocean City man is accused of killing his 74-year-old mother, according to a joint news release from Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Ocean City Police Chief Bill Campbell.
Jeffrey Surgent, 46, called Ocean City police at about 4 p.m. Dec. 8 to tell them that he was suffering from mental illness and he had just killed his mother, according to the news release.
Police responded to the residence on the 600 block of 6th Street, where they found Surgent and the body of his dead mother, authorities said.

Surgent was taken into custody without incident, authorities said. He was charged with first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Further details were not immediately available. It is currently under investigation by Ocean City police, the prosecutor's office and the New Jersey Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office.

Surgent is currently in police custody at a secure medical facility, authorities said.
