Man Charged With Sexual Assault of Unconscious Woman in Cape May County

A 22-year-old Lithuanian national who resides in Avalon over the summer months on an International Work Visa has been charged with aggravated sexual assault and lewdness, Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor said on Wednesday.

Egidijus Riaubys allegedly assaulted a 28-year-old woman from Pennsylvania while she was unconscious on the 2300 block of Ocean Drive in Avalon on around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

Avalon Police officers came upon the scene while out on bike patrol and immediately arrested Riaubys. The woman was transported, treated and later released from the Cape Regional Medical Center.

Riaubys faces 10 to 20 years in state prison for the alleged sexual assault, and 18 months in state prison on the lewdness charge.
