Man Decapitated Seagull On Jersey Shore Boardwalk: Police

Witnesses told police that they saw Franklin Ziegler, 29, decapitate the seagull on the boardwalk in North Wildwood.

NORTH WILDWOOD, NJ — A Cape May man was charged after decapitating a seagull on the boardwalk in North Wildwood, according to local police.

Officers investigated an animal cruelty incident on July 6 at Morey's Pier, where witnesses told police that they had seen Franklin Ziegler, 29, decapitate a seagull, according to a news release.

During the investigation, Ziegler was "irate and uncooperative" and he was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said.

A follow-up investigation by the department's humane law enforcement officer, which included Zeigler's statements made on scene, photographs and witness statements led to him being additionally charged with third-degree animal cruelty, police said.

Zeigler was released from jail pending a future court date.
