Masked Thief Attacks 83-Year-Old Woman At NJ Food Store, Police Say

SOMERS POINT, NJ — Police are seeking a suspect who assaulted an elderly woman and stole her purse outside of a Jersey Shore supermarket.

The robbery happened at the Somers Point Acme on Oct. 3, according to a news release. Police responded to the supermarket at about 10:50 a.m.

An 83-year-old Somers Point woman was approached from behind near the store's entrance, assaulted and had her purse stolen, police said.

The suspect, described as a younger, possibly white male wearing a mask and dark clothing, fled the scene towards Bethel Road, police said.

The woman was taken to Shore Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the attack, police said.
