Moorlyn Square Theatre Brings Movies Back To Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Movies are back on the menu for Ocean City. After a long wait, the Moorlyn Square Theatre on the Boardwalk will open to the public on July 26, the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce announced on social media.

Town Square Entertainment, which operates Harbor Square Theatre (Stone Harbor), Tilton Square Theatre (Northfield) and Ventnor Square Theatre (Ventnor) announced they had purchased the theatre in December of 2022.

The theatre has been sharing updates on Facebook showing renovations for a while. But on Thursday it came to an end, as the Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the new movie theatre.

Town Square Entertainment updated their website to reflect the new Ocean City location, but tickets were not able to be purchased online as of Thursday afternoon.

The Moorlyn was the first large building for recreation on the Boardwalk when it was built in 1905, according to website Cinema Treasures.

On June 19, 1922, it became a 1,600-seat movie theatre, according to the website. It has since been moved to connect with the Boardwalk in 1929, and survived hurricanes, being divided, neglect and more.

In 2012, it was purchased by Ocean City Tabernacle, but has sat vacant for years after they closed it in 2018.

The Moorlyn is located at 837 Moorlyn Terrace.
