Municipal Budget Voting Tabled Until Next Meeting

City Council decided to delay voting on the 2022 municipal budget due to contract negotiations between Ocean City and trash and recycling.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — City Council opted to table voting on the 2022-23 municipal budget due to contract negotiations between Ocean City and Gold Medal Environmental.

The budget will now be voted on at the May 26 meeting.

Chief Financial Officer Frank Donato said that the contract and potential litigation against Gold Medal Environmental could impact the budget, asking the council to delay voting until at least the next meeting.

Gold Medal Environmental has been under contract with Ocean City for the past four years at about $1.5 million annually, according to a report by OCNJ Daily. The company asked for an additional $1.4 million for their 2022 balance, the report said.

Since then, negotiations have continued, but there is potential for a lawsuit for breach of contract, the report said.
