The Aug. 10 event had to be rescheduled due to weather, and the club hopes to set another record food cupboard collection.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City Fishing Club hopes to set another record collection for the local food cupboard during an Open House at the Pier on Aug. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The event, originally planned for Aug. 10, had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather. The first open house this year was held on July 27, when attendance and donations to benefit the Ocean City Food Cupboard set records. Read more: Records Set At Ocean City Fishing Club Open House

During the open house, the public is invited to bring non-perishable food items or donate money for the food cupboard. On July 27, visitors numbered 1,339, and donated 190 pounds of food and $957 in cash to help feed those in need. The event surpassed all previous records for attendance and collections for the local food agency.
Tom Yucis, OCFC President, hopes the public again will turn out to support the food cupboard and enjoy visiting the pier. Located at 14th Street and the Boardwalk, the pier extends about 750 feet over the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. The club began a project to extend the pier in December 2020, adding about 113 feet to the structure. The addition was completed in spring 2021.

“Weather is always a factor when scheduling anything at the shore,” Yucis said. “We rescheduled the open house when forecasts indicated strong thunderstorms. We just didn’t want the people visiting the pier to be in any danger from those storms. Hopefully, we’ll have better weather and even more people coming out on August 24.”
The Ocean City Fishing Club, founded in 1913, is the oldest continually operating fishing club in the nation.
