Getting out into the New Jersey fresh air is a great way to welcome spring and the end of winter. There are several activities and attractions that locals or guests might enjoy while exploring the state. Eradicate the doldrums of the past cold months and indulge in a bit of outdoor fun.

Stroll Through Botanical Gardens

Springtime is renowned for having an abundance of fragrant blooms. Take the time to visit one of the state's stunning gardens. The Cross Estate Gardens in Bernardsville are found in the Morristown National Historical Park. The location is home to many native and formal gardens. The Deep Cut Gardens in Middleton span 54 acres and features a variety of plants. The Rose Parterre boasts more than 50 types of roses and close to 200 bushes. The New Jersey Botanical Gardens in Ringwood State Park, which is also the location of the historic Manor House.

Go Birdwatching

Cape May is the ideal location for bird watching enthusiasts thanks to the forests, grasslands, marshes, and swamps where many different species nest in the spring. Avid bird watchers might like to participate in the annual World Series of Birding event that takes place in May. Attend a Festival

Cape May hosts the annual Exit Zero Jazz Festival each April, where performers entertain guests with renditions of jazz, R&B, and soul music. The event attracts local and celebrity musicians alike. During the first week of April, the cities of Red Bank and Sommerville each host a combination street fair, arts, and crafts festival. The events offer live music, handmade craft vendors, foods, and works created by juried artists.

Go Hiking

Make a trip to High Point State Park in Sussex, where hikers enjoy more than 50 miles of trails. All the paths are clearly marked. Get a map and start the journey. The popular Monument Trail is part of the Appalachian Trail and takes guests to the highest point in the park. The Watchung Reservation History Trail brings guests to the location of a historic copper mine and a 1920s farming settlement. The scenic 20-acre Lake Marcia is ideal for a picnic.
